Consumer Forum
Consumer forums are specialized quasi-judicial bodies established under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, to resolve disputes between consumers and service providers or businesses. They are designed to ensure that consumers have access to a fair and efficient mechanism for addressing grievances related to defective goods, deficient services, or unfair trade practices.
Types of Consumer Forums

District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (DCDRF):
- Jurisdiction: Handles complaints involving claims up to ₹1 crore.
- Function: Provides a forum for consumers to seek redressal for grievances at the district level.

State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC):
- Jurisdiction: Deals with complaints involving claims exceeding ₹1 crore but less than ₹10 crore.
- Function: Functions at the state level and handles appeals against the decisions of the District Forum.

National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC):
- Jurisdiction: Handles complaints involving claims exceeding ₹10 crore and appeals against the decisions of the State Commission.
- Function: Operates at the national level and provides finality to consumer disputes.
Filing a Complaint with a Consumer Forum

Preparation:
- Documentation: Gather all relevant documents, including receipts, invoices, contracts, correspondence, and any evidence supporting the complaint.
- Complaint Details: Prepare a detailed complaint outlining the nature of the grievance, the parties involved, and the relief sought.

Filing the Complaint:
- District Forum: File the complaint with the District Consumer Forum if the claim amount is up to ₹1 crore.
- State Commission: If the claim amount exceeds ₹1 crore but is less than ₹10 crore, file with the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
- National Commission: For claims exceeding ₹10 crore or appeals against State Commission decisions, file with the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

Procedure:
- Submission: Submit the complaint along with the required fee and supporting documents to the appropriate forum.
- Notice: The forum issues a notice to the opposite party (the service provider or business) to respond to the complaint.
- Hearing: Both parties present their case during hearings, and evidence is reviewed by the forum.

Resolution:
- Decision: The forum issues a decision based on the merits of the case, which may include directions for compensation, repair, replacement, or refund.
- Appeal: If dissatisfied with the decision, either party can appeal to the higher forum (State or National Commission).
