Some of the co-operative societies in Delhi have been found charging car parking per half day or per hour from visitors to the society or visitors to any member of the Society.

On investigation, it is found that it is the general meeting which has resolved to charge for car parking charges from visitors of the society due to very genuine factors like many patients come to visit the Doctor in the Society or come to meet the social worker living in the society.
General Body is Supreme body to take decisions in a co-operative society
As per one of the section of the DCS Act, the general body is supreme body to take any decision regarding the management of the society.
A co-operative society which has taken land for the purpose of residential houses has to utilize it for residential purposes only. As per co-operative principles the society is required to provide all the facilities and amenities to the members of the co-operative society for the comfortable living in the residential complex. It is not the objective of the co-operative society to rent any area of the common areas of the society to earn rent or profit on it in any way including allowing its use as car parking area.
